I so dug the new Vertigo blog theme from WordPress that I just had to slap it onto my SteamWords blog site. To be completely accurate, some of the design elements look more like the work that Saul Bass did for Otto Preminger’s ANATOMY OF A MURDER than Hitchcock’s VERTIGO — but that hardly matters to me, as I’m a big Saul Bass graphics design fan in general.
Many, many years ago, when I was a young lad doing temp office work in Los Angeles, I actually spent a couple of days at the Saul Bass Studios. Didn’t get to meet the man, but saw an awful lot of his work. I hadn’t been aware before then that in addition to his film credits, he had also designed a good number of gas station “look & feel” themes; probably responsible for much of the general appearance of gas stations in the last part of the 20th century.
