Interesting commentary here, describing the effect of the economy on consumer purchases, particularly electronics such as tablet computers.
We need to remember that whatever the tremendous opportunities being presented to writers by the e-publishing revolution, it’s all happening in an economic environment that really dampens the reading audience’s enthusiasm — or ability — to purchase the gizmos that will carry everyone to the next stage. Just think how further along the revolution would be if the economy weren’t so doleful. It’s all still going to happen — and sooner rather than later — but it’s hard not to believe that economic conditions aren’t riding the brake on the process, at least to some degree.
Then again, I believe that at some point Jeff Bezos is going to drop the “free Kindle” bomb — that’ll be when the e-publishing landscape really changes.
